About Karen & Pepa

As collaborative  fine artists, Pepa Martin and Karen Davis explore the expressive possibilities of textiles as a sculptural language. Our practice merges traditional fiber techniques with experimental approaches, creating abstract forms that inhabit the space between softness and structure, craft and contemporary art.

Textiles, with their tactile immediacy and rich cultural histories, offer us a medium that is both intimate and expansive. We twist, stitch, layer, and manipulate cloth to build compositions that are not merely seen, but felt—visceral forms that suggest motion, memory, and transformation. Each piece is an act of construction and deconstruction, a conversation between two sets of hands responding to material, space, and each other.

Collaboration is central to our process. It allows us to blur individual authorship and instead focus on the shared gestures that emerge through dialogue—between artists, between materials, and between the work and its viewers. Our sculptures often defy easy categorization, sitting somewhere between object and installation, inviting reflection on the boundaries of art, labor, and identity.

Through this ongoing body of work, we seek to elevate the overlooked and the everyday—thread, cloth, knot—into forms that challenge, soothe, and engage.The pair bring together backgrounds in fine arts, textiles, industrial design, and fashion design to create work that bridges both worlds."
